EVERYTHING YOU HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT THE WAVE

1. WHAT IS THE WAVE?

​

The WAVE is the world's largest electric vehicle rallye. Every year, electric car enthusiasts, companies and universities come together and drive 8 days across some of the most spectacular sceneries of the Alps. Stops are planned in around 50 cities, at city centres, schools or interesting companies who open their doors. The goal is to show to the public that electric vehicles are ready for every day life, and they are fun! We want to bring electric mobility forward!

2. WHEN IS THE WAVE TAKING PLACE?

 

In 2018, for the first time, there will be two WAVES:

3. WHAT ARE THE RULES?

 

3.1. ALL PARTICIPATING VEHICLES MUST... 
 

  • have an electric motor (hybrid vehicles must have the fuel tank empty and sealed during the entire WAVE)

  • have a valid license plate and road registration

  • transport their own luggage (if the space is not enough WAVE support crew may help)

  • have a range of more than 60 km

  • drive at least 210 km per day (charging in the cities in between is possible)

  • be powered with a single phase 230 V / 16 A power socket (exceptions can be discussed)

  • provide enough space on the side doors for the start numbers (H X W = ca. 40 x 50 cm)

    Electric bicycles, motorbikes, cars, trikes and trucks are eligible.


     

3.2. ALL PARTICPATING TEAMS MUST..

​

  • consist of 2 people (exception: e-bikes, vehicles with one seat or vehicles with tandem-seats like i.e. Renault Twizy)

  • have a team leader who stays in the team during the whole duration of the WAVE.  While co-pilots may be changed any time, the team leader should not be changed

  • have have a satellite navigation system to find their way

  • have a tablet or smart phone to follow the electronic road book

  • follow the instructions given in the road book. Between two stops th team may choose the road. The given stops and exact arrival and departure times must be followed

4.  ELECTRIC BICYCLES

​

  • usually drive shorter routes than the cars

  • can have their luggage and spare batteries transported
    in a WAVE support car

  • must have enough spare batteries to be able to ride
    up to 200 km a day (inlcuding mountains)

  • charge their batteries at night

  • often leave earlier in the morning and arrive later in the
    evening (than the electric cars), and their stops in the
    cities during the day are shorter, so they have enough to
    to make it

  • and their riders require a certain level of fitness

5.  RENT AN E-CAR OR AN ELECTRIC BICYCLE

  • the WAVE organizer can connect you with rental companies and special WAVE rates are available

  • the price for an e-car per day (including insurance) is around 30 EUR/day

  • the price for an electric bicycle is around 150 EUR for the whole duration of the WAVE, including drop-off at the start and pick-up at the finish line

 

 

6. ORGANISER
 

The organiser is responsible for the organisation of
 

  • the places to stay for the teams

  • food and electricity

  • support crew

  • host cities and the programme

rules & regulations for the WAVE Switzerland.
Registration for WAVE Switzerland ends on 15 March 2018,
and for WAVE Austria it ends on 30 June 2018.
